How to Take the Doors off a Jeep Wrangler

2021 Jeep Wrangler with No Doors

Every commute you take when you are driving in a Jeep Wrangler is an adventure. But there are times when you want to go all out and feel all of the excitement after taking apart removable parts of your Jeep. For example, when you are driving off the Blackfoot roads, you can immerse yourself in all of the elements of the ride without the doors. Taking the doors off your Jeep can also improve fuel economy and trail experience, adding even more to your adventures! “So how do you take the doors off a Jeep?” you ask. Ron Sayer's Chrysler Jeep Dodge is here to guide you step by step, so you can quickly hit the Pocatello streets feeling a surge of charge.

How To Remove the Doors on a Jeep: Step-By-Step Guide

Follow these steps to take off the doors of your Jeep Wrangler easily at home:

  1. Fold down the side mirrors and if your model has windows, roll down them.
  2. Remove the footwell under the dashboard or by the b-pillar to disconnect the power cables. It should pop off if you remove the attaching clip.
  3. Detach the door straps by carefully lifting them off the hooks.
  4. Then, remove the bolt from the door hinges and the door should be able to slide easily.
  5. Repeat the above steps with the remaining doors
  6. Disable the door alarm by first detaching the negative lead from the battery and putting it aside, away from the terminal. Next, remove the fuse box cover and look at the diagram of the fuses on its underside. Once you locate the Door Jam Defeat fuse, remove it with fuse clips or needle-nose pliers. Finally, reconnect the negative lead to the battery.
  7. Place the doors in a safe and dry place.

If you want to easily slide the doors off next time, a pro tip is to add some lube to the door hinges. Now that you have taken off your Jeep’s doors, you can take your Jeep for an adventure of a lifetime in the Rexburg-area!

How to Take a Top Off a Jeep

The doors are not the only parts that you can take off of your Jeep; the top can be taken off as well for an enhanced liberating experience, where you might be tempted to put your hand up in the air. While you might be wondering how to take the top of your Jeep off on your own, we actually recommend that you rely on a certified Jeep service department to help you. This way, you won’t risk damaging the top permanently as the top is harder to work with than the doors without expert help.
