6 Car Repairs you can't afford to skip:
1. Break Pads, by replacing break pads early you can help save your vehicles break rotors by doing this you can save yourself about four times what you would pay to replace your break pads.
2. Oil Change, oil is like your engines blood, all sorts of impurities build up in it unless your oil is changed regularly. Sure you save around $40 by putting off an oil change, but you could end up spending $4,000 on a new engine.
3. Air Filter, changing an air filter is cheap and easy enough for most people to do themselves. A dirty air filter can change you fuel economy and if gas is up around $2.50 a gallon that can be costly. If it isn't clean, that means that air isn't getting to the engine which could cause damage to spark plugs, which depending on your vehicle, can cost $100 to $300. Now does $15 doesn't sound to bad, does it?
4. Transmission Fluid Leak, this is the most common problem with transmissions, you'll first notice a fliud leak when you see red fluid on the pavement where you park. You'll definitely notice it when your transmission starts shifting rough, or the gears are slipping. If it is leaking you need to fix it. This usually only cost a few hundred dollars but by ignoring it you can cause your transmission to seize up, which means replacing your transmission which can cost up to several thousand dollars.
5. Burned Out Lights, This is the most ignored car repair. A burned-out tail light won't lead to engine failure or your transmission falling out. But what is true is that you should fork over the $5 for a new bulb if yours is burned out. Believe it or not, failure to keep your rear lights working can be an expensive proposition. First if a police officer sees you with a broken tail light or break light, you're going to get a ticket. In some states that ticket is $150. Second, broken lights increase your risk of being on the receiving end of a rear-end collision. All of this makes $5 look like chump change.
6. Clogged Fuel Filter, just like the air filter the fuel filter keeps impurities out of the engine. On older vehicles the fuel filter is relatively easy to replace for mechanics and car owners. On newer cars, it's a more complex job. More complexity means more money-- despite the fact that it can lead to car stalling or refusing to start altogether. Don't skip it. At its most expensive, replacing a fuel filter will be a few hundred bucks. Let it go too long, not only will you deal with a car that barely run, you can also have dirt in the fuel injectors--causing them to need to be replaced. Just one fuel injector can cost over $500 but, if they all need replacing then you're looking at least $1,000 in repair bills.
As you can see in the above car repairs, they can all save you tons of money down the road. Theses are all easy fixes and will only make your vehicle better.
